Chamomile Tea for Diabetes
By TeaMaster • Sep 12th, 2008 • Category: Tea Health Benefits, The LatestA new study has some great news for chamomile tea lovers. It was reported today that the brew may help prevent the onset of diabetic complications for those with diabetes. According to an article on WebMD:
Scientists compared the chamomile-treated rats to a group of diabetic rats fed a normal diet without the addition of chamomile extract. The rats that received the chamomile showed a significant decrease in blood glucose levels compared to the diabetic rats eating a normal diet. The chamomile also inhibited two enzymes, both of which have a role in the development of diabetic complications such as diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage), cataracts, retinopathy (retinal damage of the eye), and nephropathy (kidney damage).
Another reason to drink your tea, and another great reason to experiment with different types of teas. Each variety contains unique health benefits. So mix it up a bit, and drink to good health.
